Do you find yourself rushing at the end when the mix is due? If you are you need to be spending a lot longer getting the mix tight. Another prob might be location of your speakers if you're using one as a monitor.

Yeah, sometimes - the speakers are a problem too, I’m not allowed my proper monitor speakers up as they’re too big (in her mind), so I’ve got some much smaller ones - they sound brilliant actually, but not so punchy on the bass as a result, but good enough given I can’t be ramping the volume up anyway. I imagine they'd be fine just looking at them. I mean it's in the pre mix you're losing it or not getting the mix tight enough. Unless you are and it's drifting but I can't imagine kit of that spec drifting that far by the time you've queued it. If it isn't the latter then you just need to spend more time queuing pre mix. Lots of panning in and out of the mix in the headphones helps. Worth upgrading the headphones?

Always record, that's my plan. The best thing ever is catching something great, when you're just mucking about on the decks. It also takes the pressure away.

Yep sage advice. Grant I dunno re the headphones mate. Things have moved on but saying that I'm still MDR 7506 which are absolutely superb imo for the money. Modular too. Monitoring perfection. Ears never tire.

I've only just stated recording my stuff over the last couple of months. Prior to that, I had always thought there would be no point, as i didn't think I (or anyone else) would want to listen to it. Turns out, I do enjoy listening back to my own mixes, regardless of any mistakes i may have made, it's all music that I like. The best thing about it IMO is being able to pick up on all your mistakes, and the fact that you can go back and listen to them a few times and understand what you did wrong.

It's good to hear your mistakes that's how you learn. The Timo tribute mix I did a bit back had one that really pissed me off and it was only a loop that went on 8 bars too long. If you're critical of your mixes you'll improve. That's why cunts like Jeremy Healy et al back in the day really wound me up.

It's hard not to focus on the mistakes. I'm usually pissed and stoned when I'm on them, so there are usually a few.
Did you post the timo tribute on here? I must of missed it. Link?

That's why cunts like Jeremy Healy et al back in the day really wound me up. Bet all was forgiven when he dropped Strike’s ‘U Sure Do’ though eh Derm? It’s a good point about recording your mixes. I think it’s very easy to be critical when you are doing the mixing as it sounds harsher, you a focusing on that moment. When you actually hear it back the magnitude of the mistake doesn’t seem so great as you are listen to the set as a whole rather than the mix. Grant, Really enjoyed. You obviously have a good ear and idea of how you want to build a set. Would guess that quite a few of the mistakes flew over my head. Keep at it brother. C19 mic club for the not very good??

Grant getting three pages with his first mix. Puts every other home dj here to shame.

I massively appreciate anyone who puts a mix together and shares Hannu, even if some last a lot longer than my infantile attention span!!

Listened to this through. I don't know if you want to "practice", but your beatmixing issues can be easily fixed through some hours spent on the decks. What you do know how to do is a harder thing to master is ability to tell which tunes go well with what. You seem to have that skill, and it's usually more hard to come by.
But please never again use the flanger. Got right on my tits.
