Currently reading old 70s sci fi novels. Possibly the most hit and miss genre ever. I try to do that every so often. Currently most interested in finding a copy of The Stepford Wives.

Have you tried Google? You can get a first edition from 1972 for Ā£17 or a reprint for under a fiver.
I'd wager it's available on Amazon as a Kindle download an all.

Am a fan as well though (Lynch not Mango Mussolini), let us know how it is. really enjoying it so far. the book has a really odd structure, but if you like lynch it shouldn't bother you at all. each chapter is written in 2 parts. first is a summery by the co-author. she sets the scene, quoting from interviews with friends and family, ex... the second part is lynch commenting on the first part by telling stories about the people she quotes in the first half. not surprisingly, he has a load of insane stories. you'll recognize most all of his friend names, at least in part, because they've all ended up in his movies. and he's not a trump supporter you asshole.

Dave Haslamās Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor is a good read. Tails off towards the end, but his recollections on the rising Manchester music scene in the 80s and later of the Hacienda are entertaining. Have you read Life After Dark? No...any good?

Loaded by Joe Hill, on his collection of four short novels Strange Weather, was a gut punch I've not felt by a work of fiction in a really long time.

Ira Levin's The Stepford Wives was fair. I was kinda surprised it was kitschy, more of a black comedy like the 2004 movie adaptation. I should rewatch the original film-- I don't remember it being humorous. IDK, maybe the copy I read was adapted/updated (yet without adjustments for eras)... nothing in the frontispiece identified it as such, though.
The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. Fucking terrible. Thank God it was a freebie.
Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff. Very good but the ending was a little... overtidy. Quick. Epilogue kinda made up for it.
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (Inheritance trilogy book 1) by N. K. Jemisin. Good, but her other series are far more enjoyable. Seriously, her Broken Earth trilogy is fantastic. I will read the other 2 books in the Inheritance trilogy-- if only to be completely thorough.
Currently reading the final book of The Wheel of Time, A Memory of Light. I was already a fan of Brandon Sanderson and as I've been reading his portion of the series, I frequently find myself wishing that BS would edit/rewrite Jordan's 11 books. If only to make it less bombastic, chaotic, etc.

Been meaning to buy Lovecraft County. It's being turned into a show if I remember correctly, by the one from Key & Peele who did Get Out.

I've been loving Conn Igullden books recently and am now giving Bernard Cornwell a go, another historical fiction author.

Read Dead Men's Trousers....thanks to whoever recommended it - entertaining, though takes a while to get your head around some of the Scottish passages.
Also finished BBC presenter Simon Reeve's Step by Step. He might have become a bit fluffy in recent years, but he does have a pretty inspiring story to tell - amazing how he turned his life around after a series of mental problems and despite no university education.

New Rebus from Ian Rankin is out now. By my calculation John Rebus is now 71 years old. Book is solid though, halfway through in two days.

I have the new Harry Bosch book lined up (released next week) but I seem to have amassed a number of books that I've yet to get around to. I've been into Hubert Selby Jr this year and have two more of his lined up also (Song of the Silent Snow, Waiting Period)
