I've got a serious problem with gaming (typically call of duty / counterstrike type FPS) whereby I literally can't come off it until I've lost my entire evening. Forgot to make some food. Didn't feed or walk the dogs. Forgot to go to bed. Forgot to say hello to wor lass. Dishes piled up etc etc.
I had to sell my Xbox/PS3 a number of years ago uninstall Counterstrike from my Mac.
Recently found out I have ADHD (Inattentive) which affects the right brain's communication with the left. Apparently this behaviour is because my left brain gets very satisfied with playing games hence the above near inability to say "I'll just have 20 minutes" and mean it.
I think the only way to curb it would be to have access to it somewhere away from home where its a mission to get to it - so I 'go for a games night' but be done with it once in a while.
I MISS GAMES.

for those of you with xbox live gold accounts ... if you extend your subscription out 36 months, you can then add their ultimate game pass service at $1/month for the duration of the subscription. decent deal, especially if you're buying games regularly.

yeah seems decent, at least for $1/month. i don't buy enough games to subscribe at the full rate, but the promo is good.

Ultimate gold pass is the one i have its 10.99 a month after first 2 months gets you choice of 100 games and other discounts.

Mortal Kombat 11 has been a ton of fun. Been getting a lot of play time on the Switch. Would prefer to play it on a PS4 though.

My wife and I have put about 100 hours in to Mario Maker 2.
The creation part isn't as good as the Wii U gamepad, but playing Endless Mode and top levels is a lot of fun. People have been making some fantastic levels.

I'm up to 94% game completion on RDR2. Just when you think you can't go any deeper it just keeps on going and going. Currently waiting to hit the Saint Denis Vampire with a Tomahawk as soon as he appears in one of the back alleys. Recently found the Devil (hermit) hiding in a cave and finally saw the UFO that appeared above the cult's shack. I still have miles to go with the challenges, yesterday I completed Horseman Challenge no.3 by dragging some sorry bastard up and over Mt Shaan, somehow he survived, upon release he didn't take too kindly to my use of him and he wanted to throw a few haymakers so I shot him between the eyes with a sawn off shotgun, the ungrateful bastard.
Next year I plan on going full lawnmower man and purchasing the PS5 with the VR headset. Good times ahead.

wally -- any insider thoughts on the gears 5 release? i don't play a lot of games so i don't have much to compare with, but it feels like a colossal fuck up, especially with a solid blueprint to follow from the first 3 in the series. i don't understand how a AAA release has this many bugs and inconsistencies.

epic did the first 3, the coalition did 4 and 5 after microsoft bought the franchise. i think it's a combination of inept developers and that everything microsoft touches turns to shit.
