I had to shift my 2,000-odd CDs from storage and put them back on their shelves yesterday - a job that took me 7 hours and was a fucking nightmare. I put Andy Weatherall's Masterpiece in it'a place and I thought to myself, fuck me, I'd love to play the third CD, so opened it up only to find the bastard disc missing. Double-gutted. I spent over 7 hours getting my CDs into alphabetical order (they were already in As, Bs etc) whilst listening to Sean Johnston's ALFOS set - I had loads of CDs not in boxes (about 150) and went about replacing them and then taking the incorrect CD out of the box and tracking that down etc - CD3 of Masterpiece was in a Coral's first album case - it's the was second to last CD I had to move - I'm sure he's have approved. I nearly cried. |

I wrongly thought that I knew a fair bit about Andy Weatherall but on reading the various tributes I realise I didn’t at all. He seems like a true gent and very funny with it. Sad. On the plus side (for me at least) I’ve come across some great music and mixes by him that I wasn’t previously aware of so that’ll keep me going for a while.

Did he do it all on his own? Got it in my head that the instrumental from Smokebelch II must have been the last track. He mixed the beatless version and another version together for the penultimate track. Last track was Come Together. My mate sent me a video of the Smokebelch mix - fuck me, that was a choker. Finally got around to the last hour last night. Was the David Holmes mix of Smokebelch II. Belter. Know what you mean about the last 45 mins. That must have been some night. The whole mix is brilliant |
