This week's lockdown mix was whipped together quickly on Tuesday. My roots as a DJ are very much in deep house, my first summer of playing was mostly gigs on the local terrace playing this kind of music with mates. The weather was ace this week, and was in a mood to play this kind of music. Recorded as always so here it is. Hopefully the sun shines wherever you are. Hope you also appreciate a mix that can be listened to in one sitting lol. Wav download in my Hear This. 1 Humble B Flat - Anyone Who Knows What Love Is [Pond Life] 2 Blaze, UDAUFL - We Are One (Coflo Instrumental) [King Street Sounds] 3 Omid 16B - Trail Of Dreams (92% Dirty Dream Mix) [Alola] 4 Roisin Murphy - Murphy's Law (Crooked Cowbelly 1) [Skint] 5 Rennie Foster - Call The Sun (Amir Alexander's Stripdown Banger) [RF] 6 The Return - New Day [4th Floor] 7 Romanthony - Trust (Motor City Drum Ensemble Deep Mix) [Glasgow Underground] 8 Watergate - Lonely Winter (Dubfire's Luv Dub) [Deep Dish] 9 Moon Boots, Steven Klavier - Tied Up (Kenny Dope Remix Instrumental) [Anjunadeep] 10 Jimpster - The Way It Is [Freerange] 11 Quart - Inspiration (Richard Earnshaw's Inner Spirit Extended Mix) [BBE Music] soundcloud.com/homegrove/add-a-cliched-soulful-house-mix-name-laterhearthis.at/homegrove/homegrove-addaclichedsoulfulhousemixnamelater/

Could be the haze of many years abuse!!! Will get on this,, might suit my attention span better 👍

Absolutely, but that was two or three years later. I loved prog back then, but for the gigs I was getting when I first started it just wasn't suitable.

What made you go from heavy metal to house music.

No Good first, then Voodoo People sealed the deal. Then I understood that dance music can have the same kind of dynamics as Pantera. Few months later my then girlfriend played me Plastic Dreams, and I was hooked to the hypnotic side of things too, besides just the power.

Do you still search for new heavy metal. I've never been into it myself but have lots of friends who were.

Nah. Apart from Metallica I don't check out new albums by any of the bands I listened to back then. Slayer's 2007 World Painted Blood notwithstanding (it was the classic line up back together, I had to), but I do listen to the old stuff quite often. With Metallica I've kept myself up to date all these years. I've also seen them live 11 times, starting in 1993. Last time was last July.

What do you look for when buying tunes, putting a mix together? As your technique improves does it give you a broader range to choose from?
I've been buying tunes for about a year or so now and have quite a broad range of stuff, but can't mix for toffee so don't know what to do with them.

That's all down to personal taste or what vibe your going for. I used look for a certain type of melody or groovy bassline or drums And also if it would go with other records.

I buy anything I like the sound of without thinking can I use it in a mix. Then when compiling mixes I weed through them. During the lockdown I've started to pretend I'm playing in a club, and compiling a playlist of 100 tunes with that in mind, and then just playing from that for several hours. Real fun and missus let's me do it, she can always escape upstairs to watch Vikings off Netflix.
