As Janice Turner wrote in The Times yesterday, the government told people to stay at home a week after the people had already taken it upon themselves to do so, and are now about to tell them to relax the lockdown a week after they’ve already started doing so.
The government aren’t following the science, they’re following the public.
Almost as if they are useless idiots or something.

Sturgeon trying to make out that Scotland has a different case profile which somehow justifies a more stringent Scottish lockdown where you can’t travel at all to “exercise”. a) fuck off, mate none of this is official policy (see Grant “Peach” Schnapps’s dismissive response to the first question after the briefing yesterday where some guy in the North of England asked who’s guidance he should be following given that he was in England but closer to Scotland than London) c) if you can’t travel to exercise you just force people to breach social distancing in the limited outdoor space around housing developments d) fuck off mate

So uk'ers is it stay safe, stay home or go out and have a BBQ with friends in the park? Finding it hard to tell watching the news? No, not at all, but the powers that be and newspaper owners need people to go back to work and buy newspapers so all the media making out as if it’s all sunshine and lollipops. Three weeks time and number of deaths are going to explode but this time the government’s new messaging of ‘stay alert’ shifts the blame to Joe Public. ‘Oh your kid caught the virus and died? Guess you weren’t alert enough mate’

Newspaper circulations are holding up really rather well. If any media was desperate to get people out working and getting back to normal, it’s TV and out of home (posters). ITV is absolutely fucked.

Link? That’s not what I’m reading at all. The sun for example already lost 70 mill last year. This year it’s gonna be way higher. The government are having to prop up the Tory supporting ones with Covid ad campaigns (last one was 35 mill into the paper coffers) I mean logically it doesn’t make sense. People can still watch tv if they stay at home so advertising revenues can’t be down that much? ITV must be fucked regardless of the virus aye? (Unless you mean they can’t keep making shows or something?)

The Sun shouldn't be losing money - I'd imagine it's some kind of intentional financial thing. If Reach (Mirror group) can make £119m with shit titles, The Sun and The Times are doing something really quite wrong.
Cicrulations are down about 5-10% more than normal (they took a bigger bump on the first week of lock-down, but recovered), but online audiences have gone through the roof. There's no link, you'll have to wait until the official ABCs come out. Ad revenues are badly affected, but that's all markets. ITV down 42% in April is catastrophic - at least publishers have cover price revenues.

And you're right, it doesn't make logical sense - it's not about audience really at the moment, brands don't have anything to advertise and even when they do, they're scared to in the current climate
