As Janice Turner wrote in The Times yesterday, the government told people to stay at home a week after the people had already taken it upon themselves to do so, and are now about to tell them to relax the lockdown a week after they’ve already started doing so. The government aren’t following the science, they’re following the public. Almost as if they are useless idiots or something. Can’t say I agree with some of this CJ. <boxing gloves on lol> The public went into lockdown before the government did it, true enough, but the government only did it at all because Macron called to say if they didn’t he’d close the borders between France and the UK. The international humiliation would have probably finished even teflon Johnson off. They were definitely still clinging to herd immunity at that point. As for coming out, I’d say Johnson mumbling that an announcement was coming at the weekend during PMQs when he was under pressure from Starmer was jumped on by the papers who’s owners want everyone back to work. Everyone has seen the stupid conga line and ‘sunshine and lollipops’ is being pushed by the media but that’s not the majority. I think the majority are still following stay at home. So the government are forcibly ‘nudging’ people to get them out.

I know all this - you were talking about circulations declining, which was why I mentioned online audiences. All ad markets are fucked, even the platforms. I didn’t argue that the Sun lost a load of money - I don’t think there’s been some clever accounting. How The Sun can lose that much money when the Mirror is making that much money doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Says in the article - the sun is paying out millions in phone hacking settlements. The mirror isn’t.

I'll be there tomorrow to get some more more veg plants. Had to pay £15 delivery last week and it's 5 miles away. £15??? Did they let you 'swab their tonsils' for that as well??

Still shouldn’t be losing money - what’s its cover price revenue? £300m? I’ll bet Reach’s is less than that and they’re producing 3 weekly and 4 Sundays.

Dunno dude. From what I can find, Reach PLC are down 6% year on year too?
Anyway, to summarise, *IMO* ad revenues down, sales down = nae wonder they are gagging to try and get people back to work and get past the virus.

I think from tomorrow we’re going to get a 3 or 4 lane society, with people doing WTF they want based on how risk averse / stupid / selfish they are.
Loads of people out and about yesterday .Saw a group of yoof purposely crossing the street to get close to people lining up to get into a shop and laughing about it....twats

Most groups of teenagers around here have disregarding the rules all of that time and meeting up, having fun and getting wasted.
To be honest, if this happened when I was a teenager, I probably would have been doing the same!

Do they not have parents?
Or are they the ones sat at home bragging to their mates on FB about how many cans they just finished? Probably.

You know after Brexit and the past four years, I have on occasion pondered if there was some fantastical way to separate informed and empathetic people from the jingoistic xenophobic rest.
Be careful what you wish for and all that eh?

This Korean nightclub outbreak and the woman who caught coronavirus in a socially distanced nightclub (Sweden I think) looks like a death knell for clubbing until a vaccine is found... ffs
