I was in his company, Paul. Prima Donna. Not my type of company. Huge example of it going to somebody's head.
And the money he charges for his sets, mama mia!

For the 89th time, Maceo Plex absolutely tore it up at Printworks when I saw him there a few years ago!

Wow. Seriously? What the actual fuck? How can any promoter cover that unless it's in a massive club charging Β£20 each for tickets. Mental

quote author=" LT πΊ π€ π€¦ββοΈ" source="/post/119209/thread" timestamp="1588431536"] He released some damn good techno as Maetrik. His first release on Crosstown was a good 10 years ago, I'd guess. Ellum, hard pass. But I've liked stuff on Lone Romantic. He's also released a ton of absolute samey shite, like he never bothered to update any of the sounds/vocals in his studio, whilst jacking up his booking fees like he had won a couple of Emmys. There's countless more who've been around as long, produced better stuff and have their feet on the ground. Lest we forget his online bullying campaign of Nina Kraviz that he got away with, the hypocritical cunt. * rant over *

Mental It was right around the time he only seemed to play soulless festival gigs chasing the money instead, after his waxing about being from the underground and always being true to the underground blah blah blah. Honestly, he's a fucking sap.

Mental In the 90's DJ's like Sasha and Paul Oakenfold were charging up to 10k for a gig, but there are loads of variants on that. Gigs for promoter mates would be less, so would day of the week etc, but the figures would add up, numbers through the door against ticket price. Some promoters may put on a night as a loss, if they are stupid and are desperate to get a DJ to play at their night. I can't imagine that is very often. If it did, they weren't promoters that long.

You'd need 1,700 punters paying Β£15 each to break even. On Maceo's fee for 90-120 mins alone.

I remember him "in the mix" and loving the attention from a few rubber heads down the front. Some mundane pseudo-tech crap had been playing for about 10 mins and he was creating some kind of tin sounding drumroll on whatever contraption he had - the track he was mixing in sounded like it was out of sync by at least a bar, one of those ones where you hope he spots it and gives the jog wheel a tinkerin, but no, too caught up in his own zone, dancing like a tool and then he eventually slammed it in before turning to a handful of us with a look that just said "WOW, I hope you guys caught that." Cringe factor maximum shite. I swore that night that I'd witnessed a real charlatan.
Yes he fills tents. Yes he's released some great tracks. Yes he has a big following. I guess that's one of Prog's great mysteries to me.
