Actually, I should've said out of "phase" rather than sync, makes it sound harsher than it was.
The kind of thing you'd notice if you were mixing regularly yourself or something you'd expect a producer to notice at the very least.
Either way, it was an uncomfortable moment that I'll live with for the rest of my days.

Overpaid. The fuck you care. I'm no fan of Maceo Plex but to say he's been phoning it in since day one is asinine. He released some damn good techno as Maetrik. His first release on Crosstown was a good 10 years ago, I'd guess. Ellum, hard pass. But I've liked stuff on Lone Romantic. Heaven forbid somebody make some money off of years of making and releasing dance music. There are far more egregious examples of forty-niners out there. And "poor' Nick Warren. Laughable. If there was ever a definitive example of overpaid and overrated, it's him. Guy couldn't mix a gin and tonic but got spoon fed GU mix after GU mix. I've mates who've booked him and within 8 months his fee had almost tripled even though he gave assurances he'd come back for the same fee. He's a fucking chancer and has been at the forefront of that quasi-edm rung on the ladder where their music is bog standard but they're paraded and marketed like absolute royalty, see Solomun or Troxler for example. I did mention his productions aside, I liked his stuff as Maetrik, just don't try and tell me this guy is a top level DJ, he's not. So yeah, phoning it in. Fair. But if people will pay it, that's on them. And in this fickle music world, if you're not a "chancer" you'll regret it. Nobody will know who Maceo Plex is in 10 years. But he'll still have bill to pay. I'm in the camp of do interesting stuff, make interesting music, be an innovator; but if the chance comes, take it. Richie Hawtin was quite possibly the best in the business for a bit there. Influenced a lot of people. Now he plays...I don't even know what to call it...but whatever. There are plenty of producers and DJs out there that are worth paying attention to that I don't really see the point in blasting the established types. Not to mention excusing Nick Warren's laughable GU efforts. They were a joke then; utterly unlistenable now.

No matter.

The Maetrik discography is gold, there really wasnβt much like it at that time. Properly dark and brooding, sounds immense on a good system.

I sound like a fucking apologist in this thread and I don't mean to be. But when so much hype and attention is driven by Boiler Room and the like...it's obvious the guy has moved on from proper music to proper money. He's an airbrushed DJ. Not sure why anyone should be surprised by this. You make one mistake these days - some sort of weird lip curl or something - and you're a meme/gif joke forever. If a good chunk of my income was dead set on how I look on camera, I'd practice too.
