I've been to Ficcin twice in a week now and it's incredible. Anatolyan/Black Sea dishes that would blow your socks off. Turkish food still way out in front of all the rest, way out.  |

Turks outside of Turkey and in Europe are generally dodgy as fook (see those roaming the streets of Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome for example) but the indigenous are among the soundest people I've ever encountered, Dermo. Genuinely.

To be honest mate, those dumplings don't look as good as the Chinese do, and those meat filled pancakes are a direct steal, probably made their way down the Silk Road hundreds of years ago. |

Well Dave that's where you're tremendously wrong I'm afraid. First off, the Manti or dumplings as you called them, are far better than any Chinese dumpling I've ever eaten. Mainly because they get served in yoghurt and spices and it's not cat meat filling their wonderful centres, instead it would be spicy lamb, cheese and potato. A far heartier and satisfying dish than the boiled in water, one dimensional Chinese effort.
Secondly, its completely irrelevant if the Gozleme made its way down any road in the past. The fact is the Turks have perfected it and it tastes glorious. The meat filled pie above, that I think you are referring to, I haven't sampled but I'm sure tastes good regardless of where it originated. In fact, if you know your history it was probably the Turks who gave it to the Chinese when they had migrated to Central and Eastern Asia hundreds of years before the rise of Ghengis Khan (whose name is actually Turkish).
I'm sure you'll agree that as long as the food tastes good it is of no importance if it appeared on Chinese menus 500 years ago or not. In fact I have no idea what you're trying to say here. Cheers.

Turkish and Lebanese cuisine are amongst my favourites by the way, along with Chinese and Japanese.
It's the complexity of flavour, and being able to elevate stuff like rice and breads above the level of 'mere staple'.

don't you get bored with the Chinese food all the time, Dave? It's a once a month thing for me. All that sickly sauce that the Chinese (all regions) is famous for, which I'm sure you'll agree, just sits on the stomach along with the battered pork balls and prawn toast and chips. Disgusting really. The only thing the Chinese do best is crab claws.

Hate Chinese food. Never buy it. Last time i had it was in HK and we went to a couple of the top 5 rated jobbies and it was fucking minging. We had to queue up at one for ages and we were like OMG this is going to be fuck-ing ace. Look at the queue!  One of the biggest disappointments of my life. Along with a small cock.  |
