probably depends on how much time you think you'll put into it. i started on standard and upgraded to suite about a year later, but if you're not sure, go cheap with intro and see if you like it. you can always upgrade later. Think this will be my move. Any suggestions on complete novice tutorial sites or tubes? for the most part, i just search youtube as i need to solve a problem. it's really easy to get lost watching tutorials and forget to practice actually finishing music.
the link below is really good for ideas and solutions to common creative problems. it's obviously ableton-focused too, which is helpful.
i've got lots of links saved to different synth tutorials, sample sources, and other odds and ends. i'm just getting to the point where i can finish most of what i start and look stuff up all the time, so just ask if you get stuck.

finished this last week too ...
Like it, reminds me a bit of the Fuck Buttons stuff. thanks. the mix is a bit messy and needs some work in other places, but that'll come with more practice.

Not sure what version you ended up with, but if you got Suite here's a really good introduction from Petrichor on Wavetable. Basically making a track from scratch using only that synth. Otherwise Point Blank Music and Dubspot have loads of tutorials to get you started.

Have to say, getting on well with Ableton, but I can see it's going to be a long road, everything sounds terrible, so much to learn. the learning curve is steep. it's taken me 2-3 years to get to the point where i can make stuff that sounds like music and i'm sure it'll be another 2-3 before i'm able to make anything that's actually half decent. it's really a lot of fun though and it keeps my old brain working too, which is a bonus.

This is quite a good tutorial from Tom Hades on how to make a techno track in Ableton. There's a fair bit of chin and cock stroking going on in the front row (try not to squint). But if you can get past that, I picked up a few things from this.

i've watched a few tutorials with tom hades and learned quite a bit from them. subsekt is a good forum for technical stuff too.

Proper bit of John Carpenter goin on, I like it. thanks.
post your stuff hear when you can too, i'd love to get this going as a small feedback community. i'd rather have constructive feedback from the experience of this place than random internet strangers.

That's the daunting bit. Much as I want to be able to learn about it and enjoy learning about it, I want to be able to get on it and see results straight away. Never gonna happen. IMO the quickest way to learn the software is through Ableton's dedicated channel on YouTube. No fucking about with somebody telling you their life story for 30 minutes, when you only want to find out a single specific thing. These are really short and straight to the point. You say you've got Push 2? Worth checking out these short videos on how to get the most out of it. Also, make sure you make the most of Simpler for chopping up loops. Use it with Max for Live 'Rozzer' (free just Google it) for some really mad melodies/rhythms.

I have been cooking up some dark industrial noisy techno-ish sounds, all hardware based so I can perform it live.
Therefore this board is nowhere near the target audience but I will share something here soon anyway for you to chastise.
Thanks!
