Searched for an existing thread without luck. So, if there is one, apologies. Pierre's BC was probably the topic I most frequently posted in.
Post your current reads-- faves, hates, etc.
I'm sure your all on... tenterbooks...

Just finished My Absolute Darling. What a crock of shite that was. Knew nothing about the book beforehand so very surprised by the opening chapter and brought back some strong memories of when 'uncle' Barry used to pay us a visit in the boys' changing rooms after Saturday morning footy.
The Snowman. Which I have just started and off the back of My Absolute Darling appears to be an absolute masterpiece. Not read any Jo Nesbo stuff before and quite like the detective. Although I keep expecting him to turn into Bruce Robertson from Filth. Maybe because his name is Harry Hole.
Read Murakami's Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage a few months back, which was shite and deffo one of his worst. Deffo losing it in his old age.

Yant: Iain M. Banks has been highly recommended to me, and I definitely want to read Dark Matter.
I've read 40 books so far this year- some were great, some not so. I'm working on a list of the good stuff. It's going to take a while though.

Consider Phlebas was recommended to me over the weekend, so i'll give that a go next. Thoroughly enjoying The Martian at the moment if you haven't already read it.

What are you doing time for, JQP? For wanting an eggplant parmesan sandwich at lunch, getting hit by a delivery truck while I was in a crosswalk on my way to a local sub shop (3 years ago). No a story for the book corner, obviously.

Don't bother with Dark Matter, terrible book imo. Player of Games is probably the worst of the Culture series, but works as a primer for the rest of them. Excession being the best of them. If you want a good series to get your nose into, have a look at the Expanse series. Well thought out, decent characters etc. The latter ones have not been as strong as the first five or six though. Well i've only read two of the Culture series books and i though POG was excellent. I liked Dark Matter. Easy reading, but not particularly innovative.

Currently reading Ready Player One. Entertaining enough, but not very high brow. Shocking, I know.
