Good shout on Counting Comets. That was a proper wtf-moment the first time I heard it. 2017 BPM Mexico-set I think. Goosebumps all the way through, and sounds beautiful when mixed in properly.

Had the pleasure of hearing diggers drop Stars and Shines, not sure how it was received on the bedrock forum, but it almost had me in tears that night, in a good way! Great example of a tune of thatβs quality prog post 2001. Think Ruede Hagelsteins Counting Comets remix is up there too. Ruede Hagelstein is the remix king. eg, 'Pindrop - 'Madhouse'

The only thing Derm has proved on here is just how out of touch he is.

There are still amazingly good records coming out that can rival some of the 90s releases. There were less tunes coming out in the 90s due to the quality level required to get to a vinyl release which meant the good ones were special. With immediate digital access, the sheer number of new tunes being release, overkill on social media and kids having the attention span of a goldfish, records just dont get the chance to become as big as they did in the 90s. Doesn't mean some aren't equally as good. In my humble opinion of course.

Enjoyed the Soundscape mix - I didn't know where the Heaven Scent mix was in the comp, but it's the stand-out track on the Soundscape mix

With immediate digital access, the sheer number of new tunes being release, overkill on social media and kids having the attention span of a goldfish, records just dont get the chance to become as big as they did in the 90s. Doesn't mean some aren't equally as good. In my humble opinion of course. this is my thought too. the accessibility of the tools to create and release music have resulted in an explosion of available music. some of it is great, lots of it is terrible, and it's impossible to listen to even a fraction of it. music was already becoming a disposable product with the digital revolution and people's non-existent attention span.
i think the point about the lack of filter now is a good one. it used to cost money to release music, creating a much more rigorous vetting system. it's no different than news media; the role of the editior as a gatekeeper to quality content has disappeared in favour of getting information out quickly.
personally, i've just accepted that i'm out of touch and that's not likely to change. i don't know or care what's popular or what the next big trend is. i just listen to and make music i like. there's a lot of great amateur and professional music out there that's worth searching for and listening to. it has it's drawbacks, but i would've killed for music to be this readily available when i was 15 years old.
