disappointed that i never got to see the man play live. 56 years is too young, but he impacted a lot of people in that short time.

Was pretty much single-handedly responsible for turning me from indie guitar music and tuning me into house. All the classic crossover remixes of The Mondays, Primal Scream, One Dove etc have already been posted. All more than just tunes but a lifestyle and soundtrack. Will be eternally grateful. Was lucky enough to see him DJ a couple of times in Manchester, most memorably when he had a free reign at Miles & Elliots Robodisco. Bossed it and took everyone with him. A Tyrant classic that track

From Alan Gray, who runs ALFOS in Glasgow..
The messages of kindness & support have been overwhelming & absolutely lovely. First off I'd like to say we may all be berate with grief but poor Andrew, he had no intention of going anywhere I'm sure of that. We've been knocking about together in & out of trouble in one place or another since about 93/94. I'll never be at an end with this, I'll only ever manage it for the rest of my natural. You just can't spend that sort of time with such a creative force & be over it. The last 8yrs with Brother Weatherall & Brother Johnston with Glasgow ALFOS has been some of the best of my music life. The actual & true story is as follows. We'd regularly chat on the phone & having not worked together for a couple of years we were always on the look out to work something up, not just any old situation, ALFOS turned out to nothing like any old situation. During one of those conversations he mentioned he & Sean had started doing a small basement on a Thurs evening that he thought had some legs. Great I said that sounds like something to try, let me look for a venue, we wanted somewhere new. Through a friend I was altered to the Berkeley Suite. Popped down & loved it. Called him back with the good news. I said look lets try this out & if nothing comes of it at least we get to hang out more every once in while, quite selfishly that would have been enough for me just hanging out with my mate. Well look where you guys/ALFOS Cadets took us. We stated on a school night (Thurs) Andrew & Sean with ALFOS went onto conquer all before them. I'd thought we'll get a few years at this, 8 in & it's just been some of the best nights of my life. There have been moments at the Berkeley Suite where the music was other worldly off the scale. Said it yesterday but I'll say it again Andrew loved Glasgow & knew Glasgow loved him, wasn't lost on him he had a residency in Glasgow, he knew how tough that was to achieve & was very proud. I was so grateful/humbled that he & Sean trusted me, absolutely left me to just get on with keeping ALFOS Glasgow going. To my memory I don't think he's had a longer running residency or club anywhere else. Glasgow/Scotland you loved him & he knew it on his behalf thank you for that, Andrew would have been very proud & touched by your kindness. I'm numb as stone still & going for the longest walk I can manage today. X

..."a moleskin notebook and a CD of sea shanties" yeah it’s fucking brilliant Absolutely superb. Had me crying tears of laughter and tears of sadness that he's gone.

If you want to get your ears around what I would consider a PROPER Weatherall set from recent years, this one he did with Smagghe is packed to the rafters with bombs. Starts off with Being Boiled and builds from there. soundcloud.com/bigfootsteaparty/bigfoots-strikes-4

Love this quote -
It’s quite vampyric, DJing. You’re never going to have that feeling of hearing that record for the first time again, but if you look into the eyes of someone who’s hearing it for the first time, it’s a nice vicarious feeling. But it’s not selfish. I think I’ve never lost that thing I had when I was 12 years old and inviting my mates round to my house. They’d all be copping off with girls and I’m going, ‘No, check out this B-side.’”
