Thanks for listening and your thoughts. I hear you on the too many mid high / high sounds. I've always found mixing / arrangement really hard to be honest. I should probably run with if in doubt leave it out or at least lower its volume.
And everyone has a set of ears (and their own tastes). That's qualification enough to comment!

no worries, i'm happy to help if i can. every time i learn something new about mixing, it opens the door to a bunch of other stuff i had no idea existed and i feel like i don't know what i'm doing again.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable but not astronomically priced audio interface? i've been using this one for a couple of years and it does the job just fine. i should note that it's been discontinued, but i'm sure they have a similar product still.

Have run through both tracks. One comment re the mix - I'd look to clear some frequencies out the way of the kick, either by side chain compression or by plain old cutting using an eq. Try also mixing the kick much louder.

Try also mixing the kick much louder. thanks, i appreciate the feedback. i think my problem, in addition to specific mixing technique, is that i get caught conceptually between making dance floor tracks and home listening stuff that doesn't always require a very present kick. i need to pick one and go with it. |

just gave it a quick listen and i like it. let me know if you want feedback and i'll try it out again later.
since we're both using ableton, if you want to collaborate on something, let me know. i've got lots of semi-finished work or we could start something from scratch, nothing serious, just a way to keep things interesting.
