...does nowt for me. Like the Model 1, a great tool for a certain type of DJ.
I'm not sure Sasha is that type of DJ tbh!

I'm out of touch with mixers/sound cards/audio interfaces these days. Back in the day you'd need an audi interface with ASIO drivers to get rid of latency, but that's not really an issue these days, is it? So why would you bother with an expensive mixer with a built in sound card instead of just cheap midi controller plugged into your mac through USB? ...for DJ'ing I'd say you'd still need a soundcard/interface of some sort, OK i think i get it now. So in ye olden days i had an Echo Audifire interface which i needed in order to both play track A through speakers and monitor track B on headphones, as well as that the sound quality and latency where much better then just using the internal sound card. I guess internal sound cards are still pretty limited, hence the need for the sound card in the mixer.

What’s your current set-up, Mono?

I've got an old m audio x seshion pro from a few years back which is just a cheapo midi controller that plugs into my laptop for use with tracktor. I've not used it in years to be honest, it's a bit of a faff to set up as it loses it's mappings. Kind of into the idea of buying something that's plug and play.
The last audio related toy i bought myself was a "maschine' drum machine, but that's just sat gathering dust as well. I need to stop being a lazy cunt tbh and get back into this stuff.

Traktor is just fine if you're happy to use a laptop. Something like S2 is well decent if you're just having fun. Pioneer's low level controllers are dirt cheap though, and don't need the license for the DJ software. Might be that S2 comes with a license too, mind.
Rekordbox is great because with it you can easily just show up to a party with s USB-stick if they have Pioneer's players, or use it with a controller and a laptop.

is rekordbox better then traktor? I think the sync is better in Traktor, but I switched to Pioneer/Rekordbox because I didn't want to use sync or a laptop

Yeah, the sync in Traktor is really tight if you have your beatgrids in order.

OK last question from Grandad here. What are most DJs using these days? Are they still mainly using Pioneer stuff in clubs?

Yeap, almost exclusively. Mixer is quite often Allen & Heath though, Xone 96 nowadays. Especially among techno DJs. The price of which is very decent these days, about 1300 €. Some techno DJs who use Traktor have A&H K2 almost exclusively as their controller(s).

The irony is the whole Pioneer cdj/xdj range is built on 5 year old tech that has been surpassed by the new Denon’s , but they are so ingrained into the culture of DJing none of the big names have switched . Imagine any Tech driven industry where old hardware still rules the roost .
A very odd situation

The Denon Prime 4 looks like Fisher Price kit and there are issues with the software. I’m really happy with the RX2 and can’t wait to get my hands on the XZ. Gonna get myself a deck at some point too.
